Question #1:

When should I bring my vehicle in for an oil service?

Answer:

Because of the advanced technology and engineering in todays automobile engines, as well as improved motor oils that last longer, it is not necessary to change your oil as often as in the past. BMW has taken out the guess work in determining the right time to change the engine oil or schedule an inspection service I or II. Whenever the ignition is switched on, a series of lights on the service indicator panel appear momentarily, visually alerting you to the necessity of an engine oil service or inspection.

The BMW service indicator system has been developed to save you money on unnecessary oil changes as well as maximize vehicle safety, reliability and resale value.

Question #2:

I've owned BMW's in the past and my new BMW appears to require less maintenance, can this be possible?

Answer:

Yes, BMW has been working hard to build vehicles that require less maintenance which means savings to our customers. By building vehicles that require less maintenance and more reliability will add to less breakdowns and higher resale value.

Question #3:

Recently I lost one of my keys while traveling. I am concerned that someone will find my key and locate my address and steal my car.

Answer:

The new BMW drive away protection feature enables your BMW retailer to disable a particular key from starting your car for any reason you wish. If you ever find your lost key, we can activate it to your vehicle. Not only is this feature added safety and security, but reduces insurance premiums to our customers.

Question #4:

I own an older BMW with the M-20 engine which has a timing belt. How often should this belt be replaced?

Answer:

BMW recommends the replacement of the M-20 timing belt at every 60,000 mile intervals or every 4 years, due to normal wear and tear on the belt. The engine timing belt is a rubber, grooved belt that keeps the top of the engine in time with the bottom of the engine. Failure of this belt can cause extensive damage to the engine. Replacement of the belt and pulley is a relatively inexpensive repair.
